Do you want to know how to turn ON less secure apps in Gmail?
Google has officially removed the option to enable less secure apps. Instead of the button, you will see the text “This setting is no longer available.” So, how do you access these less secure apps?
Fortunately, there is a solution!
In this article, you’ll learn how to turn ON less secure apps in Gmail.
How To Turn ON Less Secure Apps In Gmail
To turn on less secure apps in Gmail, go to your Google account settings and select “Security” from the menu. Enable 2-Step Verification, then click “App Passwords” to create an app password. Finally, type in the generated password instead of your Gmail password.
Here’s how to turn on less secure apps in Gmail:
- Go to myaccount.google.com
- Select “Security” from the left menu
- Enable 2-Step Verification
- Click on “App passwords”
- Create an app password
- Enter the generated app password
1. Go to myaccount.google.com
The first step is to log in to your Gmail account and then click this link: https://myaccount.google.com
Alternatively, log in to your Gmail account and tap on your profile picture in the top right corner.
Now, click on the “Manage your Google Account” button.
2. Select “Security” from the left menu
After you visit the “My Account” page, you’ll see a menu on the left side of the page.
Here, you’ll see options like Home, Personal info, Data and privacy, Security, People and sharing, and Payment and subscriptions.
Select “Security” from the list of options.
3. Enable 2-Step Verification
If you’ve already implemented 2-step verification for your account, you may skip this step.
This is a critical step, and you will be unable to progress unless you enable 2-step verification for your account.
Scroll down to the “Signing in to Google” section to enable 2-step verification on your Google account.
There is a “2-Step Verification” in that section.
Set up 2-step verification for your Google account by clicking on it.
You’ll be sent to a new page after clicking on it. Scroll down and click the blue “GET STARTED” button.
For security reasons, you may be prompted to enter your Google password.
To proceed, enter your password and click the “NEXT” button.
Now, choose your country code and enter your phone number to have Google send you the verification code.
After entering the phone number, click “NEXT”.
Now, enter the 6-digit code that was delivered to your phone by SMS and click “Next”.
Note: If you did not receive the code, wait 2 minutes and then click “Resend.”
If you entered the code correctly, you will see the “It worked! Turn on 2-Step Verification?” page.
Finally, turn on 2-Step Verification by clicking “TURN ON”.
Now, return to the “Security” page.
4. Click on “App passwords”
Return to the “Security” page after setting 2-step verification (refer to Step-2).
Scroll down to the “Signing in to Google” section once more.
You’ll now see a new option called “App passwords” below the 2-Step Verification option. Select this option. You may be prompted to enter your Google password.
5. Create an app password
Finally, it’s time to generate an app password.
Click on the “Select app” field and select “Mail” from the drop-down menu.
Choose a device from which you want to access the less secure app.
Select the “Other (Custom name)” option if you wish to give the password a unique name to help you remember which app it belongs to.
I wanted to use the app on my PC, so I selected “Windows Computer” from the drop-down menu.
Finally, click the “GENERATE” button to generate the app password.
6. Enter the generated app password
When you click the “GENERATE” button, a pop-up box will appear displaying your 16-digit app password in a yellow box.
Copy the 16-digit password and use it to log in to less secure apps as your Google password. Your Google password will remain the same. However, because you were unable to access the app by entering your Google password, we had to create an app password. You will no longer have difficulty logging into less secure apps.
Why does Gmail not show less secure apps?
To help keep your account secure, Gmail does not support third-party apps or devices that require you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password.
Conclusion
With the latest update, Google removed the option of allowing less secure apps. Fortunately, you can still allow less secure apps by following these easy steps:
- Go to myaccount.google.com
- Select “Security” from the left menu
- Enable 2-Step Verification
- Click on “App passwords”
- Create an app password
- Enter the generated app password
